ACS was founded in 1886 by Bishop William Fitzjames Oldham whose vision is to develop well-rounded students of strong moral character to excel academically, physically, socially and spiritually. Located in Holland Village on the former premises of the now defunct Buona Vista Secondary School, ACS is within Central Region, 7 mins walk to Holland Village MRT or 17 mins walk to Commonwealth MRT or 18 mins walk to Buona Vista MRT.
Students are offered a secondary education which comprises of 6 years education, first 2 years are general academic program after which students will branch out to General Certificate of Secondary Education in their 3rd year and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the 5th year. There are comprehensive bridging programmes for students who are not english native speakers.
All local and international students will be required to sit for an oral test, an English and Math papers while for Year 3, 4 and 5, additional Science Paper. (Details)
All classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped for both wifi and hard-wired computers. In addition to general classrooms, the school features 12 Science laboratories plus resource rooms; two specialist Music classrooms plus music technology computer lab and 4 music practice rooms. A modern Sports Hall which is fully air-conditioned, two basketball courts, a climbing wall, a full sized football field, a weights and fitness room and tennis courts dedicated to promote sports. A canteen with serveries for Chinese, western, vegetarian and snack foods; a nursing station staffed by two nurses; and two storeys of Library space plus one floor for three specialist Art rooms and computer laboratory, and one floor for Drama / Theatre.
